General Tips:
How do I get a NetLibrary account?
You will need to come to the Nampa Public Library and set up an account from one of our computers or you may contact us via telephone and establish an account which you will be able to access remotely. Once you have an account you can access NetLibrary from anywhere you have access to the web!
What equipment do I need?
NetLibrary e-Audiobooks can be downloaded or played on any desktop, laptop or portable device supporting Windows Media Player version 9 and above. Library users can also transfer favorite titles to a wide range of portable devices, including portable music players, portable media centers, Pocket PCs and even select smartphone devices.
E-Audiobooks can only be played on non-Apple components. They will not play and cannot be downloaded on Apple Computers or iPods at this time. Click Here for a list of recommended players.
Nampa Public Library has a few MP3 players and car adapters for checkout. Everyone can access the e-Audiobooks whether you have high speed or dialup access to the Internet. You can also download e-Audiobooks from a dedicated station in the library.
How do I find e-Audiobooks to download?
To find a title you can look in two places: the Nampa Public Library catalog where the item will display as a sound file; or go directly to the NetLibrary site from our homepage. You can search for a variety of titles by keyword, title, author, or narrator.
Once you have created a NetLibrary account you will be able to login and begin downloading e-Audiobooks. Select whether to download radio quality (for computer use only) or CD quality (for MP3 players). Then select download. To see a demonstration video Click Here. You can choose specific topic areas from the menu or listen to the whole demonstration. You may also view or download the Quick Start Guide.
What is the loan period?
E-Audiobooks check out for 21 days and can be renewed one time. You do not need to check them in as they will expire when the loan period ends.
How do I renew e-Audiobooks?
Once you have downloaded an item you may renew it one time only. Your computer will automatically generate a reminder for renewal to you. You may also access your NetLibrary account and renew an item once it is almost due.
Why won’t my eAudiobook play on my MP3 player?
There can be many possible answers.
To see where the problem lies start troubleshooting:
First—did you download the eAudiobook to your computer first and then transfer it to you MP3 player? If not, this is where the problem lies. Re-download the eAudiobook to your computer, acquire the license and then transfer it to your MP3 player.
Okay, that wasn’t it. So, second, did you acquire the license after downloading the eAudiobook to your computer? If not, open the eAudiobook in your media player and the player will ask to acquire the license to play the item—you will need to re-login to NetLibrary if you have logged out.
And that wasn’t it either—so, third, check your MP3 to see if the eAudiobook successfully transferred there. With your MP3 player attached to your computer open the “My Computer” area of your computer and open the MP3 player and search the files. If the files are not there, re-sync your MP3 player. If the files are there but not playing, it is likely you need to reacquire the license and retransfer the books to your MP3 player.
Finally, you have done everything you were supposed to do but
you still cannot listen to your eAudiobook on your MP3 player.
To reacquire the license for the eAudiobook:
Login to your NetLibrary Account:
Fix for Perpetual “Acquiring License” Problem upon download of NetLibrary Audiobooks
So....if after you've downloaded the book to your computer and the "acquiring license" doesn't acquire quickly (it usually takes less than 10 seconds) there may be this problem with your computer and the communication between it and NetLibrary.
Our customers may also have this problem acquiring licenses from home as Windows' auto updates may have removed NetLibrary as a "trusted site" status for them.
The fix:
Then open the title of the e-Audiobook in the Windows Media Player again. Attempt to play and license should acquire.
If this doesn’t happen try rebooting the computer and attempt to play title again;
If that doesn’t work then renew the title in your NetLibrary account and attempt again.
You can do the full process noted above for anongoing solution or you may temporarily disable your security from the task bar by clicking Internet security and “temporarily disable” but it will need to be suppressed each time a license is acquired.
