What is the difference between Lapsit and Preschool
Storytime?
Preschool Storytime is
a mix of stories, finger plays, action rhymes, and music
aimed at children from 3 to 6 years old. Lapsit
Storytime is for the caregiver and child (babies through age
2) together. This storytime focuses on introducing
the concept of storytime to younger children by reading shorter
stories, singing songs, and playing lap games that encourage
interaction between the caregiver and child.
How do I know which storytime is appropriate for my
child?
If your child can sit and listen attentively for about 30
minutes, is comfortable sitting with other children and can
follow simple directions, then he/she is ready for Preschool
Storytime. If
your child can sit and listen for about 5 to 10 minutes at
a time, is a pre-walker, and prefers staying close to his/her
caregiver, then the Lapsit Storytime may be more appropriate.
If my child is not quite three yet, can he/she attend
Preschool Storytime?
Yes, any age is welcome to attend if they can sit attentively
for about 30 minutes. Just remember, activities and books
used during Preschool Storytimes are directed toward the preschool
age child, while activities and books used in Lapsit are directed
towards younger children.
